Nunhead Cemetery

Our local cemetery is one of my favourite places in all the world. Most of it is given over to a nature reserve. It's wild and overgrown, yet carefully tended by FONC. It's a great place to visit, so if you get the chance I highly recommend it!

Peacock eyes and other random things

Clearing away the aftermath of flying ant day - waste not, want not

Definitely not seen in the garden

Water droplet on nasturtium leaf

I can only assume that somebody has dropped their car keys

An apple tree gibbon

An aphid hiding in a sweetcorn plant

Also definitely not spotted in the garden

Happy accidents

I'm not sure why these pictures came out as they did, but, nonetheless, I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

Garden birds

We don't get a huge variety of birds in our garden, and the numbers and species of those visiting are getting fewer and fewer. Why is this? The answer is painfully simple. It's not my feline presence. No. It's the continual erosion of habitat. It's been truly heartbreaking to see the number of trees and mature large shrubs that have been needlessly cut down, more than once when birds were nesting in them. The dunnocks bore the brunt of it last year, and haven't been seen since.

Gulls in Hastings

Herring gulls - there's definitely no shortage of them in Hastings!

Turnstones

I've decided that the Turnstone is one of my favourite birds. Every evening, whilst in Hastings, at low tide they came to feed on the shoreline.
