End of summer
As autumn is very nearly upon us the weather has certainly changed. As leaves fall from the trees in great numbers, in the garden this week I spied a migrant hawker, which was very exciting...if you like that kind of thing.
I also spent some time in the cemetery. No decent pictures were taken, none whatsoever, but I did see a green woodpecker. I seem to have accidentally discovered one of their favourite hideouts. Hopefully I'll remember exactly where it was, (it's like a labyrinth in there), and will return with pictures of woodpeckers sometime soon. I'm not holding my breath.
I also found another heron picture that I didn't delete!
Until next time,
Claude

The weather today has quite literally been raining one minute, bright blue skies the next. The only thing that remained constant was the strong winds. Why I even attempted to take macro shots on insects I don't know. The slightest breeze and I feel a bit giddy. Despite the nausea I couldn't help but attempt a few shots.
Until we meet again,

xJapanese Knotweed
As much as I'm not keen on the invasive nature of Japanese Knotweed, at this time of year it comes into flower and the bees, and many other insects, absolutely love it. There was just one small sprig flowering over the top of the neighbouring fence, and it was humming with activity. Sadly it wasn't the easiest of vantage points, but here are a few pictures I strained to get.
It seems hard to believe now, it was only last week and we've since had gales, but the weather was so delightful it must have been rather like late July because a few ants decided to go on a nuptial flight.

Heron earth...
This week I learnt a valuable lesson. It's always advisable to avoid emptying your trash can when you've just put your best pictures in there. My yowls could be heard right across SE15 when I realised that, in either a moment of subliminal self-sabotage or a lapse in concentration, I had deleted all the best pictures I'd taken of a grey heron. Now that I've experienced that unforgettable sense of horror, a sensation which sinks and rises simultaneously, I would be very surprised if I ever made such a foolish mistake again. I returned to Peckham Rye in the hope of getting some more snaps of the heron. I did get some more but they weren't nearly as satisfying.
First attempt...
Second attempt...
Until next time, (assuming that I don't delete my next set of photographs)

xPeckham Pond
Hardly a day has gone by recently without rain showers, the occasional storm, and plenty of gusty breezes. None of this overly inspires me to drag myself out of my cat basket to go and take some photos. However, despite overcast and showery forecast, this week I did take myself off down to Peckham Rye. There are some of the results.

Flowery things
Being summer, it's all rather wild and jungle-esque out in the garden at the moment. Here are some of the flowers that I've spotted in bloom recently.
